Another tooth

Jacob sprouted his second tooth today. He is really starting to want to chew on things to relieve the pain, but we think he's being very tough through this. He hardly fusses at all.

He has been eating rice cereal for 3 days now, and he seems to love it. We can't get the spoon into his mouth fast enough. He grabs at the spoon and the bowl. Maybe he thinks he can feed himself, but we'll keep letting Daddy feed him for the time being!

5 Months Old and Big News!

Jacob turned 5 months old on January 27. It was a very big weekend for him. We went to visit his Great-Grandpa and Grandma Kuehn in Iowa. While we were at their house, we noticed that he got his first tooth! It's a little white tooth poking through on the bottom, and the one right next to it appears to be close behind. He seems to be in good spirits so far, and hasn't been too fussy over the tooth.

The other big news of Jacob's weekend is that on Sunday, he ate rice cereal for the first time. He seemed to like it, although he made a funny face at first. After the first couple of bites, he kept opening his mouth for more. We did make a bit of a mess on his face, his bib, and the table, but it was all fun. What a big boy!

Roll Over!

Jacob finally figured out how to get onto his tummy! He did this for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and usually rolls once or twice when he's playing on the floor.
He's happiest to roll when he's not "impeded" by clothes, which is why he's half dressed in the pictures!

4 months old

He turned 4 months old on December 27. He's growing very fast! At his check up, he weighed 16 lbs. 1 oz. and was 26 inches long.

Everything goes in his mouth. If it's close to his hands, it belongs in his mouth! He really likes to be upright. He will sit in our laps if we hold him up, but what he really likes to do these days is stand. He has also figured out how to bend his knees, so he can bounce. It really wears Mom and Dad's arms out! He is also babbling more, and of course smiling. We think he might have giggled, but we're waiting for a big belly laugh. Maybe we're just not funny enough.

Baby's First Christmas

Jacob actually had 3 first Christmases! Our first trip was to Staples to visit Jena and Ty. The drive up there was an adventure, as Jacob started to get restless in the car, but we all made it with eardrums intact. He also had his first experience at Burger King. It was only his second time in a restaurant, and he was very well-behaved.

Unfortunately, we forgot to bring our camera to Staples, so I don't have any pictures. I'll have to borrow some from Mom's camera. I do have a picture of Jacob's present from Jena and Ty, a large rocking elephant. Jacob really likes to chew on the umbrella! He also got some new big boy clothes from Jena and Ty. He looks so grown up in a button-down shirt and pants!

Grandpa and Grandma Boyum also showered their grandson with presents. He got a Bumbo seat, which helps babies sit up before they can do it on their own (he is sitting in it in a picture below). He's getting used to being in it, and he really likes to sit up these days! He also got some new clothes, some keepsake boxes and a piggy bank, and a mirror for his crib. He enjoyed ripping some of the paper off the presents, but also wanted to put it in his mouth.

On Christmas Eve, we visited the Schoenbauers in Faribault. Jacob had a very busy day visiting with his grandparents, and all of his aunts and uncles. When it was time to open presents, Jacob was all worn out. He missed the first part, but he got presents from everyone! He has many new shirts and hats, and some shorts to wear next summer. He also got a couple of outfits to wear next fall. It's hard to imagine him being that big, but it will come fast! He also got a new rattle from his cousin Abby, which he chews on all the time. His new toys are all very colorful, and make fun sounds when you move them. He'll learn to do that soon enough. Right now, he just likes to look at them.

Grandpa and Grandma Schoenbauer were also very generous to Jacob. In addition to new clothes, he got some learning toys. He is going to be learning colors, shapes, and animal sounds in no time! One thing that is really special is the sled they made for him. It has his Christmas picture on it, and we can put it out in front of the fireplace every year.

On Christmas morning, we were at our house. Jacob had his own stocking hanging by the fireplace, and a few presents under the tree. His stocking had some new bibs and some sipping cups. He got a new outfit from Mom and Dad, but his best presents were from Santa. He got the Fisher Price Animal Train and a Rock-n-Stack. Best of all, he got an activity gym that allows him to "stand" and play. It has Sesame Street characters on it, and so far he seems to like it. He's still getting used to being upright for so long, but he's learning how to play with the toys, and he's figured out that he can push up with his feet to get "taller."

I can play with my feet!

This is actually a month late, but I'm trying to catch up! Jacob started playing with his feet in early December, and his favorite time to do it is during diaper changes. He has managed to get his toes in his mouth, but never when I have the camera handy.

The first three months

This is my first attempt at posting anything, so hopefully it works! I'll never have time to go back and post all his pictures from the first few months, but I made a photo montage that I think covers it pretty well. It can take awhile to load, so for those who don't have high-speed internet, we have this on DVD and can show it to you in person. If the player below doesn't work, you can try clicking on this link to go directly to the site I used to create it. http://www.onetruemedia.com/my_shared?z=eda4ca804e6c4a1bb0b3e&utm_source=otm&utm_medium=text_url
